Bio
Maarten has a background in Dutch and International Law. For the first 17 years of his career, he worked in the public sector: first as a diplomat stationed in locations such as Brussels, Washington D.C. and Afghanistan and later as senior counsel to the Prime Minister of the Netherlands. After moving to the private sector as Global Director of Public Affairs for HEINEKEN Company, he is now Head of Strategy at &FLUENCE.
Together with Tim Masselink, he wrote the book Top Negotiators. He also serves as vice-president of the jury of the National Negotiation Award. In addition, he is a visiting lecturer at the MBA programme of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. He is also a visiting lecturer in the Negotiation Program at the United States Military Academy in West Point.
